We spent two nights at Jenny lake campground. The campsite was very private, big, and with a partial view of the Tetons. We got there at 6 a.m. in order to get a campsite (it was a busy weekend because of the eclipse). Staff was helpful. Good bathrooms with flushable toilets. No showers or dishwashing station. The place where we could set up the tent was slightly inclined. Reasonable price. We would definitely stay there again!
Used to love Jenny Lake campground, this time around it was incredibly busy and we couldn't even get near the park let alone camp. Regarding the camping, its very poorly situated and each plot is tiny. People have totally overwhelmed this site and the rangers do very poorly in keeping information up to date, so whilst we arrived from 1100 miles away and got there at the time suggested we stood no chance in getting a site. The booking of this camp is a little crazy. You are allowed to keep a chair in the site and claim it, a paper plate with "we still want it" was on another option and others just had their registration sticker and nothing else in the site and it was up to the new camper to find an empty site and claim it - this made for a free-for-all where people where grabbing whatever they could and it just made it that much harder to reserve as a drive in. What bothered me was using this very lazy system allowed people to leave and not come back and the site would be left vacant.
This campground is locationally perfect. Jenny Lake is SO beautiful, and easily accessible by trail from this campground. There's a whole trail going around the lake as well that I would recommend doing. There are many spots to choose from here, most of which are shaded by the many trees which also offer privacy from any other campers near you. If it's cold or wet out, you'll definitely feel that at this site because it is so wooded. There are plenty of options for level ground spots. We camp with a tent on a car rooftop, and found many that were suitable for our set up. The bathrooms had running water which is always a plus. The camp host here was a bit unfriendly, but that was only a minor issue, easily ignored. We camped on the night of Wednesday, September 20th, had no problem finding a spot around 4 PM that day. Granted, it was very grey and cold out so that probably deterred others, but we're on a road trip! Woke up to find the ground covered with Jackson's first snow of the season. Overall, enjoyed our stay here.
Lots of sites are in the dark woods, with zero views. You can get lucky and get a more open site with views of Grand Teton. The toilets are substandard. Camp sites are small, and the place has a crowded feel. There is a lot of traffic through the campground due to people looking for sites.
Nice sites great views to wake up too.
